Breast Reduction

Patients who suffer from physical symptoms due to their breast size can undergo breast reduction surgery to relieve their symptoms. Doctors believe that breast reduction surgery is an effective method for most patients; according to Dr. Ajaka, a breast reduction can ease pain and improve the shape and size of a woman’s bust.

Exceptionally large breasts cause a myriad of unwanted symptoms: back pain, mobility problems, sleep position problems, shoulder pain and self-esteem problems all stem from a bust that is too large. In recent years, the methods for breast reduction have improved greatly; women no longer need to worry about the scars and pain that were attributed to traditional breast reduction procedures.

According to Dr. Ajaka, liposuction breast reduction procedures have a low complication rate. The procedure is fairly easy to perform; it has predictable results. Women can undergo this procedure to reduce breast size without having to worry about complications.

The Procedure

The liposuction procedure is fairly simple when compared to other options. After visiting and consulting with a doctor, the patient is given antibiotics and anesthetized. During this time, the patient’s breasts are injected with a solution that decreases bleeding and offers pain relief.

Once the solution settles, small incisions are made on each breast; liposuction is performed through these small incisions. The doctor will remove a predetermined amount of fatty tissue. When the fat is removed, the incisions are closed and the patient is woken up.

Benefits Of Liposuction Breast Reduction

Women choose this procedure because it is not very invasive; the surgery is quick and relatively pain-free. Older methods use large incisions around the areola; this leaves an ugly scar. The large incision tends to be much more painful. Small incisions heal quickly and are less painful.

Traditional breast reduction surgery can take anywhere from two to four hours. A major procedure like this is very tough on the body. In general, it is wise to avoid going to the hospital for a major surgery unless it is important. With liposuction, the procedure takes no longer than an hour; generally, patients are done in half an hour.

According to Dr. Ajaka, recover times with liposuction are fast. The nature of liposuction is much less invasive than traditional breast reduction procedures. A patient can expect to be fully recovered within a couple of days.

The latest reports are that over 70 percent of North Americans are either overweight or obese.

I saw a man eating fast food in his economy car  today. His stomach was so large that it barely fit in the front seat when the man sat down in the driver’s side of the car! The steering wheel was touching his shirt.

I was overweight myself from 1994 until 1999. I ate what is known as the SAD diet ( Standard American Diet ). A typical day for me was having a pot of caffeinated coffee in the morning with sugary donuts or cereal that was sweetened by the manufacturer.

For lunch I would eat either bologna sandwiches or go to a fast food restaurant and have fried chicken, hamburgers or tacos. I drank sugar sodas and always ate desserts that may be part of employee picnics or events.

My supper was often spaghetti and meatballs or ordering a pizza. My body was not getting any nutrition so even though I was eating a large amount of food everyday, I was not getting the nourishment I needed for good health. I would get sleepy in the afternoon and not understand why I could be hungry only 90 minutes after eating a big lunch. The hunger signs were being sent by my body that the nutrients it needed for health were lacking.

What happened and how did I make a major change in what I ate and what I started doing to properly feed myself?

Sometimes a bad event can actually kick start a human in a better direction or path. In 1999, I met a group of people that were hiking up some small mountains in Southern New Hampshire. I had quit smoking the year before and realized I had gained about 70 pounds from years of eating a poor diet. I started hiking everyday and began to gradually modify what I put in my mouth.

In 2002, I had to attend some physical therapy sessions a couple of times a week after injuring my lower back from working at Alaska Airlines in Seattle, Washington. I was in my middle 40’s and realized that I had better take better care of myself. I have been using many of the exercises I learned from those therapy sessions ever since and am proud to say that I have some firm and tone muscles even though I am even older now. The 70 pounds of excess weight went away rapidly in 2000 and I have been eating a vegetarian diet since. I am almost a vegan. Giving up wild Alaska seafood was very hard for me so I still enjoy some cod, halibut or salmon about once a month.

What Are You Eating Every Day ?

Just read that over 65 percent of the food consumed in North America is processed foods.

That means around 2 out of 3 people are not eating the foods that have the nutrition our body needs.

Processed foods have been stripped of many nutrients and harmful additives have been added in to make the food taste ‘better’.

Another statistic to think about is that over 40 percent of food eaten is consumed in a vehicle.

I remember when there were very few fast food restaurants. Our grandparents often took us out to Morrison’s cafeteria back in the 1960’s. The cafeteria had a wide selection of foods including meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, bread, and dessert. You went through a serving line and built a plate as you passed through the heated trays that held the food.

In 1900, one out of ten people in our nation would get cancer. By 2000, one out of three people would be affected by cancer in their lifetime. In just a couple of more years, one out of two  people will experience cancer in their lifetime.

Is there a direct correlation between what we put in our mouths and the disease epidemics that our nation now faces?

Our bodies are wonderfully made. If you want to move towards a healthier diet and lifestyle, just stop eating processed foods and fast foods that lack nutrition. If you are eating food that has a nutrition label, you may want to rethink whether or not to keep eating those kinds of foods that are labeled. Have you ever been sitting at a traffic light or stop sign and you were behind an older vehicle that emits toxic fumes? If you are like me, you try to stop breathing but sooner or later you will have to breathe in some of that carbon dioxide pollution. In my experience, the older diesel vehicles are the worst offenders.

I do live in California and I am able to get outside and exercise just about everyday of the year. When I am out getting my heart rate up on my bicycle or from doing a brisk walk, it disgusts me when I come across one of these heavy polluters. I guess the only hope for me is to move way out into the wilderness and build a log cabin.

Toxic Air

From my home office window this afternoon, I could see about 10 chem trails up in the sky. I live in Southern California about 100 miles or so from Los Angeles International Airport. Planes are flying overhead almost 24 hours a day.

Cadmium is released into the air around the clock from fossil fuel burning vehicles.

Yesterday I wanted to sit outside and enjoy some of the middle of the day sunshine and fresh air while waiting for a medical appointment. I was overcome by the smell of cigarette smoke coming from a smoking shelter a few feet away. There are over 400 toxins in cigarette smoke alone.

Toxic Water

help people detoxEvery day I make one gallon of pure distilled water from a machine that I have had ever since I became aware of how toxic the water is. When the 6 hour cycle is over, I let the unit cool down for 20 minutes and then open up the chamber. In the bottom of the stainless steel chamber I see a brown coating and there is also some residue on the sides of the unit. Every thing that is not H2O has been removed and the residues I see are chemicals.

Public utility testing records reveal more than 70 million Americans are now drinking tap water tainted by chromium 6.

Toxic Food

When I was a child, there was no such thing as genetically modified organisms ( GMO ). In an effort to feed the growing population, agricultural corporations began modifying seeds to try and create crops that would be resistant to pesticides and droughts.

GMO seeds and foods are banned in Europe. Heirloom seeds are in high demand now as people are finding out the effects GMO foods have on their health. Genetically modified foods are less nutritious, more likely to trigger an allergy, and contain higher levels of growth hormones and pesticides.

Every week I hear more stories of cancer, diabetes, and obesity being linked to high fat animal products. Did you know that hot dogs are processed meats that have nitrates?

Health Benefits of Eating Organic Foods

Ever since I started being more discerning about what I put in my mouth, I have been reading food and nutrition labels. I am amazed at all of the added fat, salt and sugar that is added to processed foods. Two phrases that you need to watch out for are: Natural Flavors and High Fructose Corn Syrup. Processed foods are found in boxes, cans, and plastic wrappers. How can we avoid eating processed foods and keep ourselves from gaining weight?

When you walk into most grocery stores here in Santa Barbara, California, the store has a fresh fruit and vegetable section on one side of the store. Most stores have a baked goods section on the opposite end of the store from the produce section. The bakery is where you find your breads and cakes, pies, and donuts.

The middle section of the store is where you will find most of the processed foods. You will see aisles of boxed, canned and packaged foods in the middle of the store. Not all of the packaged foods are processed foods. Case in point is if you are just buying a bag of brown rice or black beans in a plastic wrapper. These foods are healthy for you as there is no added fat, sugar or salt.

Store layouts also have refrigerated sections that contain frozen foods. Many frozen foods are processed. The exception would be fruits and vegetables that are frozen at harvest time by the growers.

Have you ever noticed that the foods in the produce section have no nutritional labels on them? If we eat foods as grown, we will be healthier. Our body is not designed for all of the added flavors, fat, salt and sugars that food manufacturers add to the processed foods.

Genetically modified foods ( GMO ) have become a serious problem in our world. In an attempt to feed the exploding population, agricultural conglomerates have been experimenting with genetically modifying food for decades now. The health problems that result from eating GMO foods is that nutrients are no longer in many of our foods. Our bodies are starving for nutrition and the food is not supplying the required nutrients.

I buy organic produce as much as I can. The reason is that most organic food is not GMO food. I grew a large garden of organic fruits and vegetables every year in my backyard in Washington State when I lived there. It seems like everyday now I hear about someone I personally know or read about a social media connection that has been diagnosed with cancer. One hundred years ago, one in ten people would be diagnosed with cancer. In 2013, one out of two people will deal with cancer in their lifetime. What happened?

Natural Healing Steps for CancerIn 1910, Americans consumed about 4 pounds of sugar every year. Many people had jobs that required physical exertion. Many people had small farms and just about everyone that didn’t live in the cities grew gardens of fresh fruits and vegetables. There were no processed foods. People cooked 3 meals at home each day.

Families ate breakfast and dinner together. I even remember working hard on my neighbor’s farm one day when I was about 12 years old. We had a large breakfast and then went out and worked on fencing.

The end result is disease and illness. A long time Naturopathic Doctor that I know states that People don’t catch or get Cancer, Diabetes, or Heart Disease. They earn these diseases through lifestyle choices.

The next step most people take once they are diagnosed with Cancer, Diabetes and Heart Disease is a trip to the family doctor. Many doctors are excellent health care providers. I do not want to slander or demeanor the medical profession in anyway. I just want to voice my concern.

Are You Ready to Reach Your Ideal Body Weight?

When I am working with people and coaching them to better health, the very first principle that I share is that we will reach our goal if we never give up! It took me many years to pack on 70 extra pounds.

I had my moment of clarity in 2000 when I was sitting in the lunch room at Alaska Airlines. I was in my 40’s and enjoyed eating all kinds of foods that were not conducive to good health. Many of these foods have excitotoxins in them. The food manufacturers know the way to increase sales of unhealthy food is to add natural flavors and fat, salt, and sugar to their processed foods.

I didn’t like all of the excess baggage on my body. What a concept! A baggage handler with excess baggage.

Alaska Airlines was always bringing in anniversary cakes for employees reaching 5, 10, 15, 20 and more years of service to the company. Someone was always bringing in a dozen donuts. So sugary junk food was all around. We all worked hard loading and unloading the airplanes and when we had a break, many of us would eat food that was not healthy.

I no longer wanted to be sick and tired and decided that I was going to start exercising and follow a diet loaded with beans, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds and vegetables.

Instead of eating cereal that had added sugars for breakfast, I began eating oatmeal and a grapefruit each morning. When someone brought in donuts or cake, I passed. My reward was seeing my pants get lose and having more energy each day!

The 70 pounds disappeared in 6 months. Daily 30 minute walks have become a regular habit for me. The time I spend exercising each day is the best time in my day. I walk 18 holes of golf each week and that is a reward for being in shape in my middle 50’s!

4 Ways to Turn Good Posture Into Less Back Pain

Most of us get back pain at some point in our lives. It may be due to a sports-related injury, an accident, or a congenital condition such as scoliosis. But most of the time, upper or lower back pain develops during the course of day-to-day life. Repetitive activities at work or home, such as sitting at a computer or lifting and carrying, may produce tension and muscle tightness that result in a backache.

Fortunately, there is much we can do to prevent this sort of problem. General physical fitness and a healthy weight are important. But one surprisingly simple strategy can go a long way: Paying attention to your posture.

The Basics of Posture

Posture is the way you hold your body while standing, sitting, or performing tasks like lifting, bending, pulling, or reaching. If your posture is good, the bones of the spine — the vertebrae — are correctly aligned.

4 Steps Toward Good Posture

You can improve your posture — and head off back pain — by practicing some imagery and a few easy exercises.

Imagery

Think of a straight line passing through your body from ceiling to floor (your ears, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles should be even and line up vertically). Now imagine that a strong cord attached to your breastbone is pulling your chest and rib cage upward, making you taller. Try to hold your pelvis level — don’t allow the lower back to sway. Think of stretching your head toward the ceiling, increasing the space between your rib cage and pelvis. Picture yourself as a ballerina or ice skater rather than a soldier at attention.

Shoulder blade squeeze. Sit up straight in a chair with your hands resting on your thighs. Keep your shoulders down and your chin level. Slowly draw your shoulders back and squeeze your shoulder blades together. Hold for a count of five; relax. Repeat three or four times.

Upper-body stretch. Stand facing a corner with your arms raised, hands flat against the walls, elbows at shoulder height. Place one foot ahead of the other. Bending your forward knee, exhale as you lean your body toward the corner. Keep your back straight and your chest and head up. You should feel a nice stretch across your chest. Hold this position for 20–30 seconds. Relax.

Arm-across-chest stretch. Raise your right arm to shoulder level in front of you and bend the arm at the elbow, keeping the forearm parallel to the floor. Grasp the right elbow with your left hand and gently pull it across your chest so that you feel a stretch in the upper arm and shoulder on the right side. Hold for 20 seconds; relax both arms. Repeat to the other side. Repeat three times on each side.

Practice these imagery and posture exercises throughout the day. You might try to find a good trigger to help you remember, such as doing one or more of them when you get up from your desk, or right before scheduled breaks and lunch. Soon it will become a habit.

Back in 2002, I suffered disc herniation while working in the airline business. For many years now, I have been continuing physical therapy exercises that I learned after the industrial injury. What helps me the most is a daily 30 minute walk. I have not missed a walk in many years.

Why God Created the Sabbath Day

It used to be that television stations would play the national anthem and sign off sometime after midnight. No more. These days the wee hours are filled with programming. Anyone up at those hours can be pummeled with unending news, weather, and/or infomercial pitches for gadgets you never knew you needed. Even in small cities, giant superstores are open round the clock. Increasingly, we live in a 24/7 world.

And business hours are busier than ever. Multitasking is the name of everyone’s game. Even on the road, you can take or make phone calls, message your uncle in Spokane, check on stock prices, be updated on the news, learn the scores in yesterday’s rugby match in New Zealand, and download music or video on your iPhone, Blackberry, or Netbook.

For many of us, eight-hour days at the office have become every-waking-hour days where the office, business, and the world invade our homes. But sooner or later we come to the realization that we need rest– not total inactivity, but a change of pace. A change from endless concerns about this hour’s stock prices and next quarter’s bottom line . . . to things both timeless and eternal. A change, yes, to love, and family, and our place in the universe. Socrates said “The unexamined life is not worth living,” and increasingly we know this to be true. We work and plan, strive and acquire, but to what end? So long as we allow ourselves to be mesmerized by the streams of data that fill the air all around us like an invisible smog, we will not pause and contemplate the truly important issues.

It’s come to the point where business publications like the Wall Street Journal are calling for—can you believe it?—a return to a Sabbath. A June 15, 2007 editorial, “The Decline of the Sabbath,” by Mollie Ziegler Hemingway put it this way: “The flip side to the prosperity we enjoy is that we have lost our day of rest for another day of consumption. The pace of commerce and technology provide unheard of options for ignoring family, religion and rest—not just on the Sabbath but every day of the week.”*

The Sabbath provides exactly the antidote we need to counter today’s information overload and anxiety disorders. The Sabbath provides a refuge, a rest, a respite from the constant activity and endless barrage of ‘news.’

The Bible tells us that God built our need for rest—and the remedy—into the very fabric of Creation. God “blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done.” By resting from all the work that He had done, God provided us with a model, and example. In the Ten Commandments, He makes this example explicit and binding: “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God.” Note that neither text says, “work six days out of seven, and rest on one.” Rather, it is explicit that the seventh day is the Sabbath. The seventh day, not a seventh day. And that day is Saturday.

Saturday? You may have been taught that Saturday Sabbath was given at Sinai just for the Jews. If that’s true, then ‘not killing’ and ‘not stealing’ would also be just for the Jews. Or you may have heard that the cross ended the claims of the Sabbath. Once again, that would mean we’re free to murder and steal—but no one believes that. You may have been taught that we worship on Sunday in honor of the Lord’s resurrection. Surely that’s an important thing to remember. But the Bible never tells us to remember his resurrection, however, we are told to remember his death (1 Cor. 11:26).

We are told to ‘remember’ his death, a striking parallel to the way the Ten Commandments told us to ‘remember’ the Sabbath. And we discover that the only full day Jesus rested in the tomb was—the Sabbath. Rather than abolishing the Sabbath, Jesus’ death reinforces it. As He had rested from the work of creation on the seventh day of Creation week, Jesus rested from His work of redemption on the seventh day of redemption week (commonly “passion week”).

Of course, most of us don’t like the ideas of “commandments” or “obedience.” But in this case especially, it’s foolish. Imagine if a doctor told you to take a vacation, and then revealed that he had a vacation designed to meet your deepest needs. That’s what the Sabbath is. Jesus himself said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” That means that the Sabbath is not some arbitrary hoop for us to jump through—we have enough of those the other six days— but rather it is a rest tailored to meet our needs.

But why not Sunday, or Tuesday? Why Saturday? Remember that the creation story in Genesis told us that “God blessed the seventh day and made it holy?”

What does it mean to “make something holy?” When Moses stood before the burning bush, he stood on holy ground. What made it holy? The presence of God. God makes the Sabbath holy by being present on that day in some special way.

“Wait a minute,” you may say. “Isn’t God present on every day?” And of course, that’s true. But it is also true that God is present everywhere—but Moses didn’t have to remove his shoes everywhere, only at the burning bush. Because, just like the Sabbath, God was present at the burning bush in some way that differs from the way He is present everywhere else. And those who set aside Saturday, the seventh day, to rest from their everyday pursuits and meet with their family and with God can attest that He truly can be experienced in a special way on that day.

Welcome to my post about the Influenza Epidemic. During the holiday season of 2012, public health officials were reporting a widespread outbreak of influenza in North America.

Influenza EpidemicLarge cities like Boston, New York and San Francisco have declared that the flu epidemic has overwhelmed the cities’ hospitals and health clinics.

Have you ever heard someone say: “Did you catch a cold?”

A human being does not catch a cold. What happens is the person that gets sick has a weakened immune system. When these people with a compromised immune system are exposed to a cold or flu virus, their body is not able to fight off the virus.

Influenza EpidemicEvery year when the days get shorter in the Northern Hemisphere, people are indoors more and more. Then in the winter when it is cold outside, most people spend the majority of their time indoors. Inside air is not being recirculated and people are breathing in stale air. If one person in the room has a cold or flu virus, the chances of other people in the room getting exposed to that virus rises drastically.

There is a way to survive the Influenza Epidemic. The best way to protect ourselves from getting a severe cold or a case of influenza in the winter is to follow some basic health principles.

1. Wash your hands on a regular basis with hot water and soap.

2. Drink one half your ideal body weight in fluid ounces of pure water everyday. Sodas, coffee and tea do not count towards your water intake. Hydration is fundamental to good health.

3. Get outside and go for a 30 minute walk every day that you can. Breath in fresh air deeply for the entire time you are outside.

4. Eat a healthy diet to give your body plenty of the necessary enzymes, minerals, and vitamins it needs for good health.

5. Get at least 7 hours of sleep a night.

Welcome to my post about Weight Loss Results. Are you ready for the weight loss madness that happens this time of the year? Here we are again. January and a New Year has begun.

I have some good news for you and some bad news for people that want to continue eating fast foods. Good news first is that there are many people who have reached their desired or ideal weight that were once overweight. These people took action and changed their lifestyle. These people decided that eating healthy food and to move everyday through walking, riding bicycles, working out in their homes, and engaging in physical activity!

The bad news is that anyone that thinks they can continue to eat fast foods, junk foods, and food loaded with sugar, fat and sodium will continue to fail. I get very upset when I see an online ad for Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers saying that you can lose weight on their program by buying hundreds of dollars of their pizza, pasta and chocolate bars. Folks, if nothing changes, nothing changes.

One cancer cell that is not destroyed by a healthy immune system will start to divide and produce many more cancer cells rapidly.

Cancer and NutritionKeeping your immune system strong is imperative for your health! Treat your body like an expensive motor vehicle and only put in foods that will boost your immune system! Plant based foods are loaded with phytonutrients and were created by a loving God to be our food.

A good diet consists of plant based foods that have adequate carbohydrates, enzymes, healthy fats, minerals, protein and vitamins to keep the body’s cells healthy. The foods we eat fuel the body. Our body must have pure water for health. The body breaks down the nutrients from plant based foods. The nutrients along with pure water are moved throughout the body to the cells via the blood. When you give the body the right food, you will realize how important Cancer and Nutrition is in regard to living a long and healthy life.
