How to Become a Christian

serve1. The Attraction

1 John 4:8

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

2. The Problem

Romans 3:23 and the first part of Romans 6:23

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death.

3. The Solution

John 3:16-17 and the last part of Romans 6:23

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

1 John 5:11-13

And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

4. Detachment

Romans 2:4

Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and long suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

5. Attachment

Revelation 3:20

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

John 1:12

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

Law & Grace

Man working on his car gets grease on his hands. It is a rather warm day so he inadvertently wipes some of the grease on his forehead when he is trying to wipe the sweat off his face.

He goes to the restroom and there is a wash basin. There is some soap and a mirror. He is able to see the grease on his forehead thanks to the mirror.

The mirror shows the man wear the grease is and the soap and water will take the grease off his face. If there is no mirror with which to see the dirty forehead, then the man does not see that the head is dirty.

Mirror is the LAW. It shows my dirty self. The law also reveals my sin to me. It is evident to me that I need a Savior and I pray for GRACE. The LAW does not save me. Grace saves me.

The Soap is Jesus Christ. When the man washed his forehead with warm, soapy water, the grease came off his face.

This message was given by Pastor John Loor at Orchards Seventh-day Adventist church in Vancouver, Washington on February 2015 during an Evangelism series.
