Marketing Mistakes to Avoid

I attended a business roundtable this January and want to share some tips that I learned. I acknowledge the source at the end of the post.

Do you have a product or service that you market? Are you making these marketing mistakes?

  • Don’t Know Your Target Client

Let’s say you market a vegetable juice powder product like Caldera Greens

( this is my best selling product ). My target client would be people that have enough diesposable income to purchase the product on an ongoing basis. Further segmenting my client to include health conscious people that have disposable income will bring me even closer to my ideal client. One last qualifier would be to say a person between the ages of 25-100 years old that is health conscious and has disposable income narrows down the target client more.

  • Don’t Know How to Communicate Your Value in a Compelling Way

Avoid spilling your guts about product ingredients when communicating about your product or service. Focus on what the client gets. Talk about the Problem, Action of using product or service and Results obtained. Remember PAR and you will communicate your value in a compelling way.

  • Focus on Features and not Benefits

People buy from people that they KLT: Know – Like – Trust

Know
Opportunity
Mindset
Understanding

The above principles were discussed at Sue Clement’s presentation in Bellingham, Washington on 26. January 2011. Sue is a Marketing Consultant.
