Are You Ready to Reach Your Ideal Body Weight?

When I am working with people and coaching them to better health, the very first principle that I share is that we will reach our goal if we never give up! It took me many years to pack on 70 extra pounds.

I had my moment of clarity in 2000 when I was sitting in the lunch room at Alaska Airlines. I was in my 40’s and enjoyed eating all kinds of foods that were not conducive to good health. Many of these foods have excitotoxins in them. The food manufacturers know the way to increase sales of unhealthy food is to add natural flavors and fat, salt, and sugar to their processed foods.

I didn’t like all of the excess baggage on my body. What a concept! A baggage handler with excess baggage.

Alaska Airlines was always bringing in anniversary cakes for employees reaching 5, 10, 15, 20 and more years of service to the company. Someone was always bringing in a dozen donuts. So sugary junk food was all around. We all worked hard loading and unloading the airplanes and when we had a break, many of us would eat food that was not healthy.

I no longer wanted to be sick and tired and decided that I was going to start exercising and follow a diet loaded with beans, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds and vegetables.

Instead of eating cereal that had added sugars for breakfast, I began eating oatmeal and a grapefruit each morning. When someone brought in donuts or cake, I passed. My reward was seeing my pants get lose and having more energy each day!

The 70 pounds disappeared in 6 months. Daily 30 minute walks have become a regular habit for me. The time I spend exercising each day is the best time in my day. I walk 18 holes of golf each week and that is a reward for being in shape in my middle 50’s!

You have an advantage over me. There is a program that has web based videos showing you how to do some upper and lower body workouts for just 10-12 minutes a day to help you burn many calories each day. Your metabolism will increase and your body will burn fat even while sitting at a computer!

The principle is using the concept that reaching momentary muscular failure in 12 repetitions is just as effective as sitting in a gym for an hour or more doing 3 sets of exercises.     It really takes a great deal of perseverance and self-discipline to be fit and healthy. But once you get used to that healthy lifestyle, things will be much easier and the time spent exercising will all be worth it.

      My golf game is much better. I can jump on my bicycle and ride for a long distance and have the stamina and energy to complete the journeys. As you shared, every part of life is now easier thanks to being fit!

    Have all those prescriptions, diets, health products, special foods, self-help books, promises and solutions you’ve tried worked a bit but never for long, or worse, never worked at all? While the odds are they may work for a few people simply because it was most appropriate for their body needs, most find the results ineffective at best because it was not what their body actually needed.

      I was able to get rid of 70 pounds back in 2000 by eating a plant based diet. I have not had a weight problem since. I can steam some vegetables or eat some raw veggies everyday and am very satisfied and do not get hungry. I also make a fruit smoothie with some powerful Organic Caldera Greens added in.

    Many people are brain washed by the fast food industry. As a child growing up in the 1960’s, the normal way of life was to eat a healthy breakfast at home, go to school with a lunchbox that had some healthy food in it and then return home to sit at the dinner table and have a home cooked meal.

    McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Pizza Hut quickly added fast food stores on almost every city block and people began to eat meals in their cars. Over 40 percent of the food eaten in North America today is consumed in an automobile.

    I do not eat out and take the time to fix wholesome foods that are straight from the earth like beans, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, vegetables and whole grains. I also detox my body everyday by drinking VelociTea

    Thanks for your reply about getting well on my blog. In North America, there are many people that think there is a magic pill or potion that will automatically take off their excess weight. I am glad I learned in 2000 that reducing the amount of food I eat and eating the right kinds of food is the key to permanent weight loss. By adding some daily 30 minute walks and 10-15 minutes of weight bearing exercises into their daily routine, people see the excess weight leave their bodies faster!
